On March 1, 2023, Wanda Lee Young departed this life in her home surrounded by loved ones. She had a courageous seventeen-year battle with cancer. Wanda was 66 years old.

Wanda was one of nine children that included Alice, Joan, Gus, Fanny, Teenie, Davie, Sue and Peekie. She was very close with her brothers and sisters, and she had a special relationship with each of them. As a child, her siblings described her as their father's favorite. Wanda was educated in Cecil County, MD, graduating from Bohemia Manor High School. After high school, she worked various assembly and production jobs including Campbell Soup, GE, Siemens and the last seven years at Amazon. She was a dedicated employee that always gave her best and excelled in whatever role she had.

Wanda enjoyed her time with her children, grandchildren and sisters. She loved attending her sons AJ's and David's various sporting events in their youth. Wanda enjoyed shopping with her daughters, Nell and Lee Lee, especially their trips to Walmart and her favorite store Roses. She loved decorating the house and took it upon herself to decorate Keisha's house for the holidays. She always made sure her outfits matched her footwear and at Christmas time you would see her in a festive sweater. Wanda's family knew her as someone who always said what was on her mind. She would often tell her children that "you just have to keep on going." She instilled a strong work ethic in each of her children. When things got tough, she would say, "It's just a test."  She loved spending time talking on the phone, sitting around the table, laughing or sometimes playing cards.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents Elwood and Helen Young; her sisters: Joan Duckery, Alice Thompson, and Susan Riggs; her brothers: David Young and Elwood Young Jr.; and her grandson, Carter Thomas.

She is survived by her five children of Middletown, DE; Keisha (Eugene) Brinkley, Dennea Thomas, Arvell Thomas III, David Thomas and Aaliyah Thomas; four grandchildren: Eugene Brinkley III, Aniyah Powell, David Thomas Jr. and Jonah Duckery. She also leaves behind three sisters: Frances Blake of Elkton, MD, Melinie (Larry) Fields of Warwick, MD, and Teresa Young of Elkton, MD and one brother-in-law, Mark Riggs of Middletown, DE. Wanda also leaves behind a dedicated host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends to cherish her memories.

A viewing will be held from 10:45 to 11:45 am on Saturday, March 11 at the Zion United Methodist Church, Cecilton, MD where funeeral service will begin at 12 noon. where burial will follow in Bohemia Manor Cemetery, Chesapeake City, MD
