Valerie A. Hackett, 68, of Galena, MD passed away peacefully on June 3, 2026, at Christiana Care Hospital in Newark, DE. Born on January 31, 1958, in Maryland, Valerie’s life was a tapestry woven with love, generosity, and an unwavering spirit of compassion.
A 1976 graduate of Kent County High School, Valerie’s journey was one defined by dedication and heart. She lent her skill and energy to a variety of workplaces over the years, including Campbell Soup, the bakery at Acme, Tidewater Publishing, and Twinny's. Yet it was beyond the professional sphere that Valerie truly flourished—her true joy was found in the company of family and friends, laughter-filled gatherings, and moments shared dancing and listening to music.
Valerie was someone who would always go out of her way to help others. Her generous nature shone brightly, whether in everyday acts or larger gestures of kindness. She loved being around people, drawn to the warmth of connection, and was ever ready to extend a helping hand.
Valerie’s passions resonated deeply within the heart of her home. She savored the art of cooking and baking, delighting in creating dishes that brought smiles and comfort to her loved ones. Playing cards was another treasured pastime—an activity that allowed her to weave bonds of joy and camaraderie with family and friends alike.
Her family was the center of her universe. She leaves behind her daughters, Tychelle Doggett (Fred) of Millington, MD, and Tanisha Young of Galena, MD, who carry forward her legacy of strength and love. Her spirit lives on in her beloved grandchildren: Jenyah Frederick, Jayden Reid, and Antoine Reid Jr., as well as her great-grandchildren Kariyah McCraney and Ameriah Freemen. She is also survived by her siblings Mary Ann Fields; Joyce Hackett; Wendy Robinson (Percy); Nathaniel Hackett; Jacqueline Brown (William); sister-in-law Lisa Jefferson (Ray), and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Valerie was preceded in death by her father Anthony Hackett Sr., her mother Cassie Lee Jones, and her brothers Willie Fred Jones, Donald Jones, Edwin Harris Sr., and Anthony Hackett Jr.—a family foundation that shaped the woman she became.
To honor Valerie’s life, a viewing will be held on June 13, 2026, from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W Cross St, Galena, MD, where a funeral service will begin at 12:00 PM. Burial will be held in Olivet Hill Cemetery.
Valerie A. Hackett’s legacy is one of love extended to all, a reminder that the greatest gift we can offer one another is our time, our care, and our unselfish willingness to lift others up. She will be deeply missed, eternally remembered, and forever cherished.
