Obituary

Thomas Donald Bottomley, 90, of Chestertown, passed away on January 21, 2025, at his home, where he spent the last few years in Chincoteague Island, VA.

Donald was born November 22, 1934, the son of the late Thomas H and Mary Myrtle (McFarland) Bottomley. He was raised in Price and was a 1953 graduate of Centreville High School. From 1955 through 1957, he served in the U.S. Army, obtaining the rank of Sergeant. From 1957 through 1963 he served in the Maryland Army National Guard, obtaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. In 1958, he married Margaret Ann Thompson and moved to Chestertown, where they raised their sons. Donald worked as a machine operator for Baltimore Business Forms for 30 years, retiring in 1988.

Donald was a life member of Millington VFW, Rock Hall American Legion, Bay Country Moose in Millington then Queenstown and served as Governor of the Millington VFW and Millington Moose Lodge #1909.

He had a deep love for camping that lasted for many years. He cherished moments spent by the water, whether crabbing, enjoying boat rides with his wife and family, or passing on his skills by teaching others how to crab and fish. Together, they created wonderful memories, surrounded by each other, their family, and their friends.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Margaret A. Bottomley, and sisters Margaret, Charlotte, and Carlos.

Mr. Bottomley is survived by his sons, Donald Kevin Bottomley and his wife Lisa and Kenneth A. Bottomley; 7 grandchildren, Melissa, Jennifer, Skyler, Summer, Star, Sailor, and Bryan; and 4 great-grandchildren, Hannah, Jonathan, Harley, and William.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 West Cross St., Galena, MD. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Church Hill Cemetery.
