Susan Marie Riggs was born August 20, 1960 in Elkton, Maryland to the late Elwood Young Sr. and Helen Smith Young. She departed this life on Saturday, October 22, 2022.
Susan was raised in Warwick, MD in a household that was always filled with family. She was one of the youngest of her siblings that included Alice, Gus, Joan, Fanny, Teenie, Lee, Davie, and Peekie. Sue was educated in Cecil County, MD, attending Bohemia Manor High School. In her youth, she loved to play sports, including softball and basketball. Sue's sisters called on her for their maintenance projects. She fixed everything from appliances to cars.
In 1980, Sue had one son, Rashim. Rashim loved many of the same things as his mother, including spending time with his family, listening to music and playing sports. Soon after Shim was born, Sue met and married Mark Riggs. Sue and Mark went everywhere together. They spent time listening to the oldies but goodies and watching sports. They also loved playing chess. In the beginning, Sue loved to cook for Mark and then in recent years, she taught Mark how to cook for her.
Sue thoroughly enjoyed family and friends and was always the life of any party. She was very friendly and everyone always asked for Sue. Sue was famous for giving nicknames to many of her family members, including naming one of her nieces Susie after herself. In recent years, she loved calling everyone on the phone and had a schedule for calling all of her sisters, nieces, nephews and many of her friends. She would always say "Have a Blessed Day!" You could time her calls almost daily and she loved reporting back to her sisters what their kids were up to since she thought that she had the inside scoop.
Sue had a special bond with many of her nieces and nephews and each has memories that they will hold dear. Sue and Teresa lived together over the years and Teresa's children and grandchildren were especially close to Sue including RobRob, Terricul, Jermaine, Ronnell, Quron and Qurinne.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents Elwood and Helen Young, her son Rashim Watts, her sisters, Joan Duckery and Alice Thompson and brothers, David Young and Elwood Young Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted husband Mark. She also leaves behind four sisters: Frances Blake of Elkton, MD, Melonie (Larry) Fields of Warwick, MD, Wanda Young of Middletown, DE, and Teresa Young of Elkton, MD. She also leaves behind two granddaughters. Susan had a dedicated host of niece and nephews, cousins and friends to cherish her memories.
