Obituary

Sandra Rhodes Nafzinger, 90 of Sudlersville, Md passed away on January 15, 2025 at Compass Regional Hospice in Centreville, Md.

Sandra was born on February 27, 1934 in Johnstown Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of the late Daniel  Sylvester White and June Elizabeth (Saylor) White. After graduating from Ferndale High School she married her high school sweetheart and started her family.  In 1958 they moved to Elkton, Md, and then to Crumpton, Md. where they raised their family. She was an active member of Crumpton United Methodist Church and served on the Board of Trustees, held the office of Secretary, and taught Sunday school.  She also sang in the choir, and played the piano when needed. Sandra worked at Campbell Soup in Chestertown, Maryland  until the plant closed. Sandra then went to work for Chestertown Animal Hospital until she retired. After the death of first husband (Allen Rhodes), she married John Nafzinger. Sandra became a "Snowbird" spending her winters in Venice Florida and her summers in Crumpton, MD.  After the death of her second husband, she moved to Foxxtown Apts. in Sudlersville, Md. She resided there until her death. Sandra enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, crabbing, and working in her garden. She  loved to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Sandra enjoyed football, live games at Camden Yards, and watching the game on the big screen Tv at her children's house.  She enjoyed going to Spring training in Florida. Her favorite teams were the Baltimore Ravens and the Baltimore Orioles. She enjoyed puzzles, knitting, watching westerns, reading romance  and mystery novels along with the Bible, music, cooking, baking, and dancing. Her most cherished times were spent with  family, friends, and her gran and great-grandchildren. Sandra looked forward to her Thursday nights hanging out with her friends, while listening and dancing to Pickin and Grinin at the Sudlersville Senior Center, where she got to share her homemade baked goods. Sandra was well known for her baked goods.

Sandra was proceeded in death by her parents, Daniel Sylvester White and June Elizabeth (Saylor) White, her husbands, Allen Rhodes and John Nafzinger, her brother and sister-in-laws, Harold Rhodes, Richard Rhodes, Burl Rhodes, Gary Rhodes, Perry Luebke, Alberta Luebke, Eileen Tarbay, Judy Rhodes, Mildred White, and Grandson Jamie Pike.


She is survived her children, Doug Rhodes (Debbie) Hammett, ID, Gregg Rhodes (Cyd) Redmond, OR.  Bobby Rhodes (Evelyn) Pondtown, MD,  Althea Stubbs (David) Kure Beach, NC and Son-in-law Jim Stubbs, Sr. of Millington, MD  Stepchildren, Jimmy Nafzinger (Sue) Cecilton, MD, Bobby Nafzinger (Tammy) Livermore CA, Barbara Clark (Jack) Sudlersville MD, and Betty Barlow of Millington, MD.  Grandchildren, Megan Pike, Evan Rhodes (Desiree), Marc Rhodes (Amanda), Rhiannen Rhodes (Gordon),  Allison Huffer (Junior), Brady Rhodes, Jimmy Stubbs, Jr. (Karen),  Janet Sheriff (Fazal) Josh Thomas (Sarah), Brian Nafzinger, Jaime Vaughn, Karen Clark Chamberlin (Keith) Bobby Clark (Jen), Glen Barlow (Carla), Shawn Wallace, Hannah Whitman, and Tessa Nafzinger  12  Great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews

A Celebration of Life for Sandra Nafzinger will be held on Saturday June 28th, 2025 at the Millington Volunteer Fire Department at noon. The Celebration will start at noon with a Luncheon and dancing to follow. Those of you who knew Sandra knows how much she loved to dance, so dress casual and make sure to wear your dancing shoes.  Let's celebrate a life well lived!  Location: 185 Sassafras St, Millington, Md 21651
