Samuel ‘Paige’ Hickman, 86 of Millington, MD passed away at home on October 18, 2026 surrounded by his loving family.
Paige was born on February 19, 1940, son of the late Clifton ‘Kip’ and Ida Whaland Hickman. He was raised in Rock Hall and was a graduate of Rock Hall High School. He began his career working for the A & P, then he and his brother Dennis purchased and operated the IGA in Millington for several years until operating Millington Texaco. Later during his working years, he found his true calling; Fire Equipment Sales and Service. Paige was well known and respected by all of the volunteer fire departments he served throughout the eastern shore of Maryland, Delaware and the eastern shore of Virginia.
Paige’s true passion was the Fire Service, where he viewed himself simply as a member of the Community Fire Company of Millington for 57 years. He dedicated much of his life to serving the fire company and community. His leadership, commitment, and countless contributions helped shape the department and left a lasting legacy among the many people he served with. Paige would say, “he felt the very best about himself in the back of the ambulance.” The Community Fire Company bestowed him the title Chief Emeritus in 2026.
Paige loved fishing. For years he would go to upstate New York with his friends. In the spring, he would perch fish at the river then when summer came around he was in his boat on the Sassafras looking for catfish.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Ronald Hickman and a sister Cynthia Hickman Elburn.
Paige is survived by his wife of 34 years Eva Walraven Hickman; children Robyn Otwell (Jerry Taylor), Eddie Hickman, Aaron Simon (Shelby Shahan) and Andrea Simon-Pennington (Mike); a brother Denny Hickman (Judy); grandchildren Dustin Otwell (Jen), Bethany Otwell and Emmi Simon; a special nephew Mike Hickman and special friends, Rick and Margaret Wallace and Cathy Willis.
