Sally Jean Ginsburg passed peacefully in her sleep in her house at 86 years of age on December 24, 2019. Sally born Sally Jean Smith on November 24, 1933 in Akron, Ohio. She was the second born of three children to Clearance Smith and Emma Louise Smith (Moore).  Sally is survived by her younger brother Robert Smith of Paduka Kentucky and her two sons: Bob Ginsburg & Jeffrey Ginsburg. She is also survived by: Doris Ginsburg (daughter-in-law), Pam Ginsburg (Daughter- in-law) & her five grandchildren; Tina, Jessie, Kayla, Charles, and Caitriona Ginsburg.

Sally and her late husband Charles Abraham Ginsburg retired to Earleville/Hacks Point Maryland 24+ years ago, from Jenkintown PA. However, Sally & Charles (aka Chick) had a summer place at Button Wood Beach for 10+ years prior to purchasing their dream house on Scotsman's Creek located behind the old Hacks Point General Store. After Charles passed away, Sally began a relationship with her significant other Bob Halley of Earleville, and was with him for 5 years until his passing.

Sally was raised principally in Pennsylvania and Ohio. She went to college at Penn State where she met Charles A. Ginsburg and they were married on August 27, 1960.  Sally retired from Temple University Hospital & Medical School where she worked for Dr. Malmud, the Dean & President of Temple University's Medical Campus. Sally worked as his Administrative Assistant for 20+ years. Dr. Malmud and his wife Dr. Elsa Malmud are Godparents to Sally's two children, Robert and Jeffrey.

Throughout Sally's life she was actively involved in many organizations, including the local PTA in Jenkintown PA, the Daughters of the American Revolution (where she was chapter president), the Jenkintown HS Theater, the Boy Scouts, the Civil Air Patrol and the Jenkintown Bridge Club. After moving to Earleville/Hacks Point Maryland, she remained active in DAR, Lions, VFW, a local senior group, the Hacks Point Fire Co, as well as in her church (St. Stephen's Episcopal in Earleville).

Sally loved to meet new people. She also enjoyed telling dirty jokes partaking of her beloved extra-dry Manhattan martinis, Rum and Cokes, and Bloody Marys.

Sally's wish was not to have an official funeral or memorial service. Instead Sally wished to have a cocktail party for her many friends and family. Mom's cocktail party will probably be at the end of January or beginning of February. More information will be mailed out once the date, place & time have been established.

Sally didn't write her own obituary; instead this job fell to her oldest son Bob. As any of you who knew Mom, she was a very strong personality and always wore the pants in the family. From the beginning she always gave the orders and right up to the end was still giving orders. Mom was a very strong and tenacious woman, but also very loving and kind. However, toward the end Mom' mind & body were not as strong as they once were. We (Bob, Doris & Fam) had moved out to the local area 5 years ago, after 18 years in Arizona, to help mom. Now mom was not always happy or appreciative of the help from me or her other friends, but that was just a reflection of her strong sense of self dependency.

Mom's last year was not all that great regarding her health. The last few weeks mom's health had deteriorated significantly and she was in hospice care. But she left our world the way she wanted to: she passed in her sleep, in her bed, & in her house as she wished.

Sally also leaves behind many good friends and extended family including her "adopted" daughter Bonnie Lawrence and her step-grandson, Robert Halley. I have always credited Bonnie with keeping mom alive during my time in Arizona. Also, many thanks to Bob Halley's grandson Robert Halley and his wife Amanda who have also been extremely helpful regarding mom and her care these last few years.  Jeffrey was also able to see mom prior to her passing.

I would also like to thank Sally's caretakers who were invaluable this last year. Many thanks to: Ms. Renae, Ms. Joann, Ms. Culet & Xavier who were kind and very caring this last year.

Family and friends were with mom prior to her passing. Mom's last wishes the evening prior to her passing were characteristically Sally -- she asked for a rum & coke, as well as ice-cream, both her favorites.
