Ruth Mullen Aiken, 92, of Middletown, DE passed peacefully on July 11, 2026. She was born on November 20, 1933 in Galena, MD where she grew up on her parent’s dairy farm. In 1959, she married her husband of 59 years, David Aiken of Warwick, MD.

Ruth was a 1950 graduate of Galena High School and went on to attend Goldey Beacom Business College where she graduated in 1952. She started her career in banking in 1952 and retired after 47 years of service with the Bank of Delaware, where she was a highly valued executive assistant.

Ruth, also known as Ruth Jean by many of her loved ones, was classy yet down to earth, always quick to send a thank you note or card. She could remember dates of weddings, births and events of just about anything of significance. She accredited that to writing everything down, a trait she learned from her father. She was a strong woman with a wonderful sense of humor and loved spending time with her family and friends. She and David were very charitable to many organizations pertaining to children and animals.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband David, her parents Daniel “Babe” and Marian Garton Mullen, and her sister Kay Mullen. She is survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews who loved her dearly, a special friend and caregiver Crystal, and her faithful friend Fusty. She will very much be missed by them all.

A viewing will be held on July 17, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W Cross St, Galena, MD, where a funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM. Burial will be held in St. Dennis Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital or SPCA.
