Robert Edgar Homan went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 13, 2024. He was 84 years old. He passed away on the same day as Dr. Ruth Westheimer. Richard Simmons, and Shannon Dougherty. What an interesting meeting at the pearly gates.

Bob was born to parents Helena and Edgar Homan on September 20, 1939, in Vineland, NJ. Vineland, the town he would call home for 49 years, was where he met the love of his life Linda Spicer. They married in 1961 and made their home in East Vineland, where they raised their two daughters, Valerie and Victoria.

Throughout his life, Bob was a member of West Baptist Tabernacle, Cumberland Baptist Church, where he became a deacon, and Faith Bible Church. Bob was a quiet Christian who believed you could teach more people about the salvation of Jesus Christ through simple helpful actions than beating them over the head with a Bible. He was quick to lend a hand or a ride to anyone in need.

After the Marine Corps, Bob worked in the Egg Harbor shipyards and for Wheaton Glass, before starting his own home improvement business with his wife. When not working for others, Bob could be found tinkering in his wood shop. The Homan house was never without an ongoing project.

Bob was also an avid camper, sailor, and bicycler. He and Linda spent many years hiking portions of the Appalachian Trail or biking with their two girls in tow until they found their true love – sailing. Bob was most content at the tiller of a boat on the Chesapeake Bay. A love for sailing would eventually lead to a family move to Chestertown, MD, in 1988.

Bob worked for Washington College as a carpenter from the time he arrived in Chestertown until his retirement.

Bob had a very dry sense of humor and never missed a chance to laugh or have an adventure. Linda shared in this love of life, and in retirement, they would often pick up and go whenever they could to explore a new bike trail, garden, historical site, or lighthouse. Their daughters never knew where they would wind up but were always assured of a phone call of "Guess where we are?" when their parents arrived at their chosen destination.

A dedicated father, Bob was so very proud of his eldest daughter Valerie and her career with Boeing. And a patient father to Victoria, who was either in the principal's office or off on adventures of her own. He was most proud of his grandson Garrett who followed him into the Marine Corps.

Bob also loved the various pets that came into his life, starting with Mike the Dog, who had puppies; numerous cats over the years, including Muzzie, Mittens, Smokey, Pumpkin, Twurple, Mickey D, Kurt the Kat, and Charlie. He also loved his granddogs Wellington, Fiona, and Watcyn. And while never owning a bulldog, he couldn't resist stopping to greet every one he saw and telling them that they were a good looking dog.

Bob and Linda shared 51 years of marriage before Linda's passing in 2012. Bob was never quite the same after losing his best friend, but he continued to try new adventures with dear friends Dr. Bruce Woodley, Tatyanna Filippova, and Oksana Bocharova. He was lovingly looked after by his neighbors in Foxley Manor.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife Linda, daughter Valerie Crispin, parents Edgar and Helena Homan, brother Kenneth Homan, and niece April Homan.

Bob is survived by his cat Charlie, daughter Victoria Luff (Jim), grandson Garrett Crispin, nephew Carl Homan (Doreen), niece Cindy DiChino (Ray), and niece Melanie Leone (Darrell).

A visitation will be held on Monday, July 22 from 6 to 8 pm in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, Galena, MD
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, August 18, from 2-4 p.m. at The Bank, Chestertown, MD.
