Robert Lee Bennington, 92 of Earleville, MD, passed away on October 26, 2019 in Union Hospital, Elkton, MD.

Lee was born on March 18, 1927 in Ridgely, MD, son of the late Robert E. and Nora Hughes Bennington.  After graduating from high school he enlisted in the US Navy serving during WWII.  Upon his honorable discharge he furthered his education at Penn Morton College, receiving his Bachelor's Degree.  He began his 26 years career as a chemist at American Viscose and FMC Corp; retiring as manager of Research and Development from Allied Corp.

In 1956 he and his wife built a summer home in Crystal Beach making it their full time residence in 1988.  He was a member of St. Dennis Catholic Church, where he worked as a bookkeeper and business manager and served on the Finance Council.  He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.  While in PA he has served as past president of the Chichester School Board and Baseball League.  He also enjoyed genealogy.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Alice Grear.

Mr. Bennington is survived by his wife of 72 years, Margaret 'Peg' M. Watson Bennington; 4 children, Margaret Lee 'Peg' Tillinghast (Richard) of Chesapeake City, Robert Lee Bennington, Jr. (Dawn) of Florida, Ronald Lee Bennington (Julie) of  Manhattan, NY and  Cynthia Lee Bennington of Earleville; 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, October 31 from 9:30-10:30 am in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St. Galena, MD.  Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 am in St. Dennis Catholic Church, 153 N. Main St. Galena, MD.
