Robert F. Atkinson, 84 of Smyrna, DE, passed away on February 6, 2022 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Bob was born on July 4, 1937 in Rock Hall, MD, son of the late Vernard S. and Mary Brown Atkinson. As a child he moved to Millington where he later met and married his wife, Mattie in 1958.  In 1963 they moved to Clayton where they raised their girls. He served in the Army National Guard in Smyrna, DE from 1955 to 1963. He began his career with Anchor Motor Freight in 1963 and retired in 1997 after 34 years of service.  For 10 years he and his wife owned and operated Rt. 6 Liquors at Blackiston's Crossroads.

Bob enjoyed traveling and bought his first motor home in 1977, where he and his wife visited all 48 continuous states.  Since his retirement in 1997 he became a Florida snowbird.  He was a member of Camden Wyoming Moose Lodge and a lifetime member of Good Sam Club.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Alvin Atkinson.

Bob is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mattie Pearson Atkinson; daughters, Vickie Atkinson-Davis (Donnie) of Smyrna, DE, Tina Camper (Eric) of Harrington, DE and Mary Ellen Love (Scott) of Clayton, DE; 4 grandchildren, Colby (Kaitlyn), Jarred, Kyle and Jordan; 1 great granddaughter Remi; brothers, John Atkinson and Steve Atkinson of Millington and 2 sisters Margaret 'Peg' Hayman of Sudlersville and Paige Morton of Millington.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 11 at 1 pm in Asbury Cemetery, Millington, MD.  Please join the family for a remembrance luncheon after the graveside service at the Millington Firehouse.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered to Astra Zeneca-Hope Lodge, 110 W. Laurel Ave., Cheltenham, PA 19012
