Richard Howard Baxter, known fondly as "Tomcat" to his friends and "Dick" to his family, departed this world at home on September 21, 2025. Born on June 14, 1944, in Farmington, Pennsylvania, Richard's life was a tapestry of hard work, adventure, and laughter. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather, whose legacy is cherished by all who knew him.

Richard was the loving husband of Kathy Lee Baxter and proud father to David Baxter of Orlando, Florida, and Dinah O'Dell (Christopher) of Bexley, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Beulah Baxter, who instilled in him the values of family and hard work.

He is also survived by a brother, Raymond Baxter and wife, Rosemary Killian, of Wilmington, Delaware, and his sister, Jane Erickson and husband Paul of Brooksville, Florida. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Madisen and Dawson Baxter and Aidan and Molly O'Dell, who brought joy and pride to his life.

A 1962 graduate of Middletown High School, Richard was known for his dedication and entrepreneurial spirit. He built a successful career as a self-employed log home builder and contractor, a trade that he loved and which showcased his exceptional talent as a carpenter. He loved to work and whistled his way through many projects!

Richard's adventurous spirit led him on many journeys across the United States, visiting 49 states on his beloved Harley. He took many cross-country trips, most notably a trip with his son, brother and beloved nephew, Nathan Baxter, as well as many trips with his treasured friend, Richard Chambers, who was like another son to him. Richard also found great enjoyment while visiting his cousins in western Pennsylvania. Many of his fondest memories were made on the mountain in Farmington, Pennsylvania.

He had an infectious love for life, whether he was playing golf with his buddies at Garrison Lake, dancing the night away or having a beer or shot of Jim Beam with friends. Richard's presence in the room was legendary, and he was often referred to as the life of the party. His spirit was a beacon of joy that drew people to him.

An avid lover of blues music, Richard could often be found listening to live music – especially at the St. Georges Country Store. His passion for music was paralleled by his love for dancing which he thoroughly enjoyed and excelled at.

Richard was a man of many talents and interests, but it was his character that left the most significant mark on those around him. He was funny, adventurous, and exceptionally handy – there was absolutely nothing he could not fix! His daughter, Dinah, inherited his carpentry skills and his son, David, got his love of Harleys. His presence was a source of strength, joy and happiness, and his absence leaves a void that can never be filled.

As we bid farewell to Richard, we celebrate the remarkable life he led and the memories he created. His was a life well-lived, full of moments that will be treasured by his family and friends forever. Richard Baxter's story is one of love, laughter, and a zest for life that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.

A Celebration of Life to honor Richard will be held at a later date and details will be announced when finalized.
