Patrick J.
Caldwell
Dec 3, 1943 — Oct 10, 2026
Chestertown
Patrick J. Caldwell, of Kennedyville, MD passed away on October 10, 2026, at the age of 82.
Patrick was born on December 3, 1943, in Kansas City, Missouri, to the late Roy William and Mary Agatha Caldwell. Patrick was raised in Kansas City where he attended school, graduating from Rockhurst High School. He went on to attend and graduated from Rockhurst College in Kansas City, where he distinguished himself on the basketball court. A gifted collegiate athlete, he was named an All-American in 1964, 1965, and 1966. He was also an integral part of the 1964 NAIA National Championship team. During his time at Rockhurst, he became the school’s leading scorer and rebounder, leaving a lasting mark on the program as those records still stand today.
Patrick’s talent in basketball led him to the professional level when he was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in 1967. Following his time in the NBA, he built a long and varied career marked by dedication and perseverance. His professional journey included stops at Mobile Oil for three years and Reed and Barton for more than 20 years. He also worked with Helen Boehm and Hampton Haddon before spending the final 25 years of his career self-employed in marketing and sales.
Patrick was often described as a gentleman and a kind and caring individual. In addition to his love of family and faith he was deeply devoted to his many dogs and especially his best buddy Mr Bear. He cherished his time boating on the Chesapeake, sharing crabs and beautiful sunsets on the Sassafras with family and afternoons with his tennis partners and friends.
Patrick will be remembered for a life shaped by achievement, hard work, and commitment across every chapter—from his years as a standout athlete to his decades in business. His accomplishments in college basketball and his long professional career reflect a man who brought energy and purpose to all he pursued.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Monsignor Roy William Caldwell.
Patrick is survived by his wife of 31 years Rebecca Webster Rimel, whom he married in 1995. Together they moved to the Eastern Shore of Maryland in 2001. He is also survived by his son Peter Caldwell and his wife Chantel and grandchildren Emma, Allie, and Harry.
A private graveside will be held at Shrewsbury Cemetery in Kennedyville, MD.
In lieu of flowers, a 34 Fund has been established at Shrewsbury Parish to help disadvantaged children participate in sports. Patrick, having been raised by a single mom after his father’s early death, found his time with teammates in sports to be a life changing experience. He and his family wish to make this possible for many others.
Donations may be made out to Shrewsbury Parish and noted as a donation for the 34 Fund and sent to Shrewsbury Parish, PO BOX 187, Kennedyville, MD 21645.
