Odessa P. Christy, 78 of Harrington, DE passed away on March 5, 2026 with her loving daughter by her side.
Odessa was born on November 9, 1947 in Chestertown, MD, daughter of the late Edward S. and Anna Hackett Perkins. She was raised in Chestertown and after her marriage they moved to Warwick, MD, where she raised her family. Odessa began working at Campbell Soup than as a housekeeper in the West View Shores Community of Earleville, MD and continued at Redding Middle School as a cafeteria worker. She found her true passion at the University of Delaware as their pastry chef, retiring after 25 years.
She loved family gatherings, sewing and travel, including London, Central America and overseas.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings, Edward Perkins, Jr., Rose Herbert, Clarence Perkins and James Perkins and the father of her children, Dennis Christy.
Odessa is survived by her children, Michael L. Christy, Sr. (Billene), Timothy L. Christy, Monica R. Christy, Felicia "Lisa" Grinnell, Eric Fletcher, Kiriel P. Christy-Batalla and ET2 USN Stephan Ramon Christy-Batalla; best friend Carmen Jordan; a brother George Perkins (Edith) and a sister Arlivia Howard; grandchildren Dr. Shiradon Kirk, Ed. D (TJ), Chavonna Young (Justin), Michael L. Christy, II (Tabitha); great grandchildren, MaKinley, Xavier and Hadley Christy, Khloe and Kennedy Kirk and Bryson Fletcher; sister in laws, Margaret Ann Perkins, Esther Prichett (Arlington) and Alice Riddick (Joe) and brother in law Alan Christy (Jennifer); special nieces, Donnette Commodore, Areatha Perkins (Debbie), Sherri Pritchett, Connie Brown (Arthur) and Lisa Penn-Jones (Keith).
A viewing will be held on Saturday, March 21 from 10 to 11 am in Zion United Methodist Church, Cecilton, MD where funeral service will begin at 11 am. Burial will follow in Bohemia Manor Cemetery, Chesapeake City, MD.
