Merceda J. Eckstrom, 89 of Betterton, MD passed away surrounded by her loving family on July 26, 2024.

Mrs. Eckstrom was born on February 13, 1935 in Allentown, PA, daughter of the late Paul and Merceda Flynn Fischl.  She had lived in Pottstown where she was a Registered Nurse and teacher at Pottstown Memorial Medical Center for 45 years.  In 1973 she and her husband purchased a summer home in Betterton, and after retiring in 2000 were able to enjoy more time there.

She was a member of the Chestertown Elks, American Legion Post 246 Auxiliary, where she had served as President for many years, and Treasurer of Children and Youth in Betterton.  In Pennsylvania she was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary and United Way.  Mrs. Eckstrom enjoyed gardening, especially flowers and boating on the water.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Jack K. Eckstrom, Jr.; children, Maryjane Fillman and Jack Eckstrom, III (Heather); brothers, Joseph Curley (Jimmy Johnson), Michael Curley (Mary); a stepsister Stephanie; 4 grandchildren Jordon Eckstrom, Kendell Eckstrom, Alyssa Fillman, and Ashley Fillman and a great grandchild Dayton Eckstrom.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
