Mary Lou Hurtt (Aiken) 1925-2025
Mary Lou graduated from Cecilton High School and attended Goldey Beacom. Before her marriage worked in Comptroller's Office at University of Delaware, Newark and Middletown farm store.
Married to James Freeman Hurtt, Jr. (Jim) until his death in 2008. Survived by four daughters: Ruth Anna Hurtt Klyver, twins Margaret Hurtt and Mary Hurtt Tazewell and Jean Hurtt Taylor, one grandchild, Susan Virginia Overton, and two great grandchildren, Kaylee and Hunter Overton.
Predeceased by parents, Richard and Anna Aiken, and brothers, Del & Helen, Amos & Justine, David, Bobby & Barbara, and John & Sally. Survived by sister-in-law Ruth Mullin Aiken, as well as many nieces and nephews. On the Hurtt side, survived by brother-in-law, Woody (Joan) and their children Robert and Kathy, and grandchildren.
When kids were old enough in school, she worked for Georgetown Yacht Basin, Fleetwood Insurance and Sherwin Williams Paint Store.
She and her husband retired from farming in 2007; she was always happy to do field work and made the best fresh fried fish. She and her husband Jim taught their girls to love reading. If a snowstorm was predicted, the first stop was the library, and then the second stop was the grocery store.
Sadly, due to health reasons, she spent the last few years in the care of Beathany Village, Mechanicsburg, PA rather than in her home on Federal Hill Farm, Galena, MD.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 27 at 2 pm in Georgetown Cemetery, Georgetown, MD
