Mary L. Whelan Burkitt, 39, of Earleville MD passed away suddenly on October 24, 2023.

Mary was born on May 7, 1984 to Hugh and Ruth Whelan of Earleville, MD. Mary was born and raised in Cecil County on the family farm, Foxes Lane Farm, where she spent many hours exploring and enjoying the peacefulness of her grandmother's farm.

She attended Cecilton Elementary School, Bohemia Manor High School, graduating in 2002. Mary then attended Cecil Community College where she became a phlebotomist. She then went on and studied at Grand Canyon University, where she earned a dual degree in Regular and Special Education. Mary always considered herself a farm girl at heart.

In addition to her parents, Mary is survived by her husband of 20 years, Chris, son Dominic, brothers Hugh Whelan (Susan) and Paul Whelan, 4 nephews, 2 nieces and a host of Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.

A viewing will be held on November 2nd from 6pm to 8pm at the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech at 118 W. Cross St., Galena, MD. Mass will be held on Friday, November 3rd at 11 am at St Dennis Catholic Church, 153 N. Main St. Galena, MD. Burial will follow in Galena Cemetery.
