Margaret Mench Lane 90, of Church Hill, MD passed away on October 12, 2023 at University of MD Shore Medical Center in Easton.
Margaret was born on December 1, 1932 in Worton, MD to the late James G. and Katherine Joiner Mench. She grew up in Kent County and then moved to Church Hill when she married the love of her life Lewis E. Lane in 1951. Margaret worked for the USDA (ASCS) Agriculture Service in Queen Anne's County for 32 years and then worked for Legg Mason Brokerage Firm in Chestertown for 10 years before retiring. When her children were young, she taught Sunday School at Church Hill United Methodist Church and led a cub scout troop. She enjoyed bowling and was in a bowling league. She loved to read, cook, play cards and watch baseball, football and golf. After retirement she enjoyed exercise classes and going to lunch with a group of friends. Most of all she loved her family.
Along with her parents, Margaret is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Lewis E. Lane; 3 brothers James Mench, Norman Mench, and Robert Mench; and 2 sisters Beatrice Messina and Dianna Gordon.
She is survived by her 3 children Kathryn Lane Redman (Phil), Lewis 'Buzzy' Lane Jr. (Sally) and Robert Andy Lane (Amy); 1 sister Hazel Moffett; 6 grandchildren Kyle L. Decker (John), Elizabeth A. Redman, Aaron M. Lane (Chanelle), Adam Hunter Lane, Alfred 'Freddie' Everett Jr. (Regan) and Robert Jason Everett (Stafie); and 10 great- grandchildren Dominic Decker, Jaylin Redman, Jamison Kendall, Hunter and Hailey Lane, and Ellie, John, Patrick, James and Rowan Everett.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Margaret may be sent to the Friends of the Kent County Public Library, 408 High Street, Chestertown, MD 21620 or to the Community Food Pantry, P.O. Box 346, Chestertown, MD 21620.
Services will be held privately.
