Obituary

Margaret Hurtt (1952-2026)

Graduated from Galena High School in 1971 and St. Andrews Presbyterian College in 1975. She worked five years at the business office of Kent and Queen Anne’s Hospital in Chestertown. She then moved to DC to start her career in the Federal Government as secretary in the Computer Branch of the US Army Research Institute for the Behavioral and Social Sciences. She retired from the Fiscal Programming Division of HQMC as a GS13 Budget Analyst.

Margaret’s father Jim, mother Mary Lou, grandparents Richard and Anna Aiken, James and Ruth Hurtt as well as many uncles, aunts and cousins predeceased her.

She is survived by her 3 sisters, Ruth Anna Hurtt Klyver, Mary Hurtt Tazewell (twin), Jean Hurtt Taylor; niece Susan Virginia Overton (Michael), grandniece Kaylee, and grandnephew Hunter. Survived also by much loved friends the Hickey’s (John and Beth, and their kids Parker, Emmy, Owen and Hudson).

Upon retirement she remained living in Arlington, Virginia, continuing to visit her home twice monthly to help out and “just be there”. Later, she moved to a retirement home in Pennsylvania in order to make the move of her mother less stressful and lonely.

Her “claim to fame” was making her “almost world famous” grandmother’s cheese straws each Christmas.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, May 18 at 1pm in Georgetown Cemetery, Georgetown, MD
