Mamie Marie Butler, 97 of Worton, MD passed away on August 18, 2022 surrounded by her loving family.

Marie was born on November 5, 1924, daughter of the late Charles Butler and Blanche Walker Somerville and her grandparents who raised her, Rev. Albert and Cora Walker. She was a lifetime resident of Kent County where she graduated from Garnett High School as the Valedictorian for the Class of 1941. Marie worked for Campbell Soup for 25 years, retiring at the age of 62. She enjoyed cooking, flower gardening, watching television, especially news shows and all church activities.

Along with her parents and grandparents she was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Somerville and a son in law Harold Jones.

Marie is survived by her children, Stephanie Lindsey of Worton, MD, Rev. Denise Jones of Chestertown, MD and Brian Phillips (Denise) of Smyrna, DE; sisters, Marilyn Watters, Audrey Cooper and Phyllis Somerville; a cousin who was raised like a sister, Josephine Phillips; 6 grandchildren, Tyler Brown (Terwana), Kristin Lindsey, Brandon Jones, DeShawna Phillips-Cook (Cullen Cook, III), Damesha Phillips and Quadre` Phillips (Rolonda Blackshear); 11 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, August 27 from 10 to 12 noon at Mt. Olive A.M.E. Church, 2840 Lambs Meadow Rd., Worton, MD, where funeral service will begin at 12 noon. Burial in adjoining cemetery.
