Linda Kay Minner McCloskey, 70 of Felton, DE, passed away on December 15, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. McCloskey was born on August 12, 1954, in Milford, DE, daughter of the late Harry W. "Dickie" Minner, Sr., and Louise Lyons Minner. Linda was a 1972 graduate of Lake Forest High School. That year, she quickly transitioned to the work force, entering as a typist within the personnel office for the State of Delaware. Over the course of an incredible 40-year career, through tireless work ethic, Linda was promoted to Director of Human Resources for the State of Delaware. In this time, she helped implement and lead teams that developed programs and protocols that are still in place today and earned the team a Governor's Award of Excellence.
Linda retired in 2013 to spend more time with her family.
Linda was the anchor of her immediate and extended family. She prioritized and cherished those relationships, with great love and care. Her support was shown at swim meets, gymnastics, ball fields and cheer competitions, as well as every school event. She loved the family beach house in Prime Hook, where generations would gather to fish and enjoy the sun and sand. Christmastime was her favorite season; Linda found great joy in giving, both to her children and to those around her.
Linda was a devoted advocate for her husband Johnny. Her support allowed him to follow his passion for farming, resulting in years of successful farming operations. Linda and Johnny built a wonderful life and were truly partners in every sense. They shared adventures together in trips to the Outer Banks, Myrtle Beach and Disney. ATV trail riding, and camping were some of their favorite activities with family and friends.
Trinity United Methodist Church held a special place in Linda's heart. Linda's parents were members, and she attended Trinity as a child. In 1973, Linda was married to the love of her life; she and Johnny exchanged their vows at Trinity. She continued serving in the choir, held offices in the church council and numerous committees. She often sang special music with her sisters, Wanda and Brenda, and participated in every Christmas and Easter cantata. Linda hosted many special functions, baby showers and birthdays, held in the church hall at Trinity. Linda's faith and salvation through Christ brings comfort, knowing that by her passing, she now rests with Jesus.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her sister Sandra Baker.
Linda is survived by her husband of 51 years Johnny McCloskey; her children, Brian C. McCloskey and his wife Jessica, and Brandi L. Layton and her husband Michael; grandchildren, Jerus, Liam, Johanna and McKenna and her siblings, Wanda Gerardi, Brenda Bonniwell, Dickie Minner and Debra Hopkins.
A visitation will be held on December 28, from 10am to 12pm, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 63 Commerce St., Harrington, DE. A service in memorial will begin at noon.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered to Trinity United Methodist Church, 63 Commerce St., Harrington, DE 19952.
