Obituary

Leslie L. Joiner, 93 of Chestertown, died August 11, 2024 at Golden Rule Assisted Living, Rock Hall.

Born in Chestertown, he was the son of the late Merritt and Helen Joiner.  He was the husband of Dottie E. Joiner.  After graduating from Chestertown High School, he was employed by D & R Supply Company.  In 1951, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served 4 years during the Korean Conflict.  He was stationed in Texas and Arizona, where he lived with his wife Dottie for 3 years.  He left the service as a Staff Sergeant and began working with the C & P Telephone Co. (later known as Verizon).  He retired in 1991, after 36 years of service.  He later worked as a "Bank Runner" for Mercantile Bank.

He was a member of Kennedyville United Methodist Church, lifetime member of Frank M. Jarman American Legion Post #36, member of the Telephone Pioneers and former member of the Galena Lions Club.

He had a love for horses (always owning one during his young years) and enjoyed watching horse racing.  He loved watching sports and spending time with his devoted family and friends.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years Dottie E. Joiner.

He is survived by 2 daughters, Debra Wiest of Chestertown and Terri Garvey and husband Paul of Millington: 3 grandchildren, Tyler Wiest (Lindsey), Brittany Garvey and Taylor Garvey; and 4 great grandchildren, Olivia Garvey, Aiden Williams, Ainsley and Jase Wiest.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 15 from 10 am to 12 pm in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, Galena, where the funeral service will begin at 12 pm.  Burial will follow in Chester Cemetery, Chestertown.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations to Kennedyville United Methodist Church Building Fund, PO Box 32, Kennedyville, MD 21645.
