Lena C. Unruh, 94, of Smyrna, DE, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2023, at Milford Hospice Center.

Lena was born April 10, 1929, daughter of the late Orville W. and Ruth Evans Newnom. She was raised in Taylors Bridge, Townsend, and was a 1948 graduate of John Bassett Moore High School in Smyrna. For several years she was a stay at home mother raising her daughters in Odessa. She began her career with the Delaware State Police and later worked for American Hoerscht, Duramed Medical Services, Whirlpool Acceptance Corp. and retired at the young age of 88 from Delaware Park. Lena was a charter member of the Odessa VFC Ladies Auxiliary.

Lena, also known by many as "Granny", was full of life.  She made everyone feel loved and welcome, was a friend to all, even if she just met you, and kept everyone smiling with what she would say.  Her life was filled with many friends, which was important to her.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Harry N. Newnom, Martha Elliott, Ruth Unruh, Edna Long, and Gertrude Thomas.

She is survived by her daughters, Jerren U. Wetterau of Townsend, DE and Cathie L. Alger of Melbourne, FL; 5 grandchildren, Paul Watts (Treasa), Kevin Watts (Jill), Anne Coleman (Don), Amber Estep (Brian), and Eben Durvin; 9 great grandchildren, Paul Watts, Jr., Bryan Watts, Aaron Watts, Jaxon Watts, Willow Webb, Emma Coleman, Julia Coleman, Grant Coleman and Brian Mitchell; 2 great great grandchildren, Noah and Eli, and a host of nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Monday, November 20, from 10:30-12 at the Friendship United Methodist Church, 169 Paddock Rd., Townsend, DE 19734. Funeral service will begin at 12 noon. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna, DE.
