Joseph Smith Whitlock, Sr., 97 of Earleville, MD went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, surrounded by his family on what would have been his 77 ^th wedding anniversary to his late wife Elizabeth Whitlock.

Mr. Whitlock was born on September 21, 1925 in Earleville, MD, son of John Pearson Whitlock and Lillian Smith Whitlock.  He was a loving and devoted husband and father.  Mr. Whitlock worked on Grove farm for 66 years for the Wright family before he retired.  He had lifelong passion for hunting, fishing, and gardening but his greatest joy in this life was spending time with his family and friends.  Mr. Whitlock began farming at the young age of 13 years old.  He also trained Chesapeake Bay Retrievers.  He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee and cemetery warden.  Mr. Whitlock later attended Grace Community Baptist Church.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth, sons, Joseph Whitlock, Jr. and Phillip Keith Whitlock and siblings, Pearson, Warren and Melvin Whitlock, Elsie Wilson and Suzie Long.

He is survived by his 2 daughters, Anna Walls and husband Joe of Cecilton, MD and Elizabeth Lynn Singleton of Earleville, MD; daughter in law Dr. Robin Seal-Whitlock of Marydel, MD; 7 grandchildren, Tammy Short, Carrie Davis, Zeke Whitlock, Caleb Whitlock, Colton Singleton, Sarah Singleton and Hayley Singleton; 8 great grandchildren, Brooke and Wyatt Short, David, Gavin, Aubrey and Tristan Davis, Phillip and Peyton Whitlock and 1 great greatgrandchild, Massey Bedwell.

Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, November 8 at 1 pm in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St. Galena, MD where friends may call 1 hour prior.  Burial will follow in Johntown Cemetery, Earleville, MD
