Obituary

John “Gary” Miller, 84, of Chestertown, Maryland, passed away on July 24, 2026, at Bayhealth Hospital in Dover, Delaware. Born on December 9, 1941, in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late Elmer and Freda Miller. Gary served in the United States Army with the 497th Engineer Company Port Construction in Vietnam and qualified as a sharpshooter during his service, a skill he carried throughout his life.

A carpenter by trade, Gary worked in construction and owned a home improvement business. After leaving the construction field, he drove a truck for many years, hauling nursery stock up and down the East Coast. He retired from David A. Bramble Company after 21 years of employment.

Gary enjoyed hunting, fishing, and crabbing, as well as working on boats and old tractors. Most of all, he loved spending time with his wife, daughters, grandchildren, and their families. He will be greatly missed.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Glen Miller, Jimmy Miller, and Lloyd Miller, and his sisters, Audrey Hodge and Frieda Teel.

Gary is survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara Jean (Reed) Miller; his daughters, Dawn Miller (Randy Moore) and Lisa Jones (Bryant Jones); his granddaughters, Sarah Massey (Jesse Hurley), Amanda-Marie Clifford (Forrest Clifford), Megan Jones (Lucas Waldburger), and Kaitlyn Jones (David Ruano); his great-grandsons, Kenneth Winn III and Emmett Clifford; his step-great-granddaughter, Blythe Hurley; and his beloved dogs, Lil Bit and Gracie.

Celebration of Life will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Queen Anne’s County Animal Services, 201 Clay Drive, Queenstown, Maryland 21658.
