Obituary

John M. M. Foxwell Sr., 89, of Chestertown, MD passed away peacefully February 25, 2026 at his home.

John was born on October 15, 1936 in Wilmington, DE to the late John L. and Florence Butler Foxwell.  At a very young age his family moved to California where he lived until the second grade, when his family moved back to the east coast.  His family purchased a farm in Willow Grove where he worked on the family farm growing up.  He went on to graduate from Caesar Rodney High School in Camden, DE.  Later he joined the Delaware National Guard where he served until his honorable discharge.

He always had a passion for cars and he turned this passion into a career.  He was a skilled autobody mechanic and dedicated his life to the trade.  He was the owner and operator of John's Auto Body in Chestertown and later opened John's Used Cars in Fairlee.  He also worked for Williams Chevrolet in Elkton and spent the last part of his career working for his dear friend at Geno's Automotive Service.  When he wasn't working on cars, he enjoyed traveling all over the country going to car auctions, car sales and antique car shows.  He also enjoyed traveling with his family, especially trips back to California.

Along with his parents, John is preceded in death by his wife of 47 years Carolyn Newcomb Foxwell.

John is survived by his children, John Foxwell Jr., Shari Blakeney, Penny Younger, and Brian Stevenson; and his loving grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A burial will be held privately in Chester Cemetery in Chestertown, MD.
