John Louis Chance, 84 of Galena, MD passed away on June 20, 2025 at home.

Louis was born on February 23, 1941, son of the late Dudley McFarland Chance and Betty Masten Chance.  He had lived his entire life on the Dudley Chance Farm, where he began farming with his parents and continued farming, raising chickens, crops and dairy throughout his life. He was a graduated of Galena High School.  Louis also owned and operated a school bus for 18 years.  For 30 years he serviced Badger Farm Equipment in the area.  He loved being a farmer and the animals he cared for.

Louis was a faithful church member of Holden's Chapel; he loved the Lord.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Barbara Ann Young Chance in 2024.

Louis is survived by his children Brenda Louann Patillo (James) of Galena, MD, Brian Louis Chance of Tokyo,  Carla J. Chance (Jack Deskins) of Fayetteville, AR and M. Diane Coleman (Tonia) of Millington; his sister Janet Bernardy of Galena, MD, 2 brothers, Robert Chance of Lindside, WVA, and Gerald Chance of Galena, MD; grandchildren Crystal Pacheco, Charles L. Coleman (Victoria), Eric Patillo and Lorelei Patillo; great-grandchildren, Malisa, John, Payton and Brantley; his dog Bella and dear friends and caregivers, Brian & Carlena Aldrich and their children Brian, Jr. and Skyler.

A viewing will be held on July 1, 2025 from 10 am to 12 pm in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St. Galena, MD, where funeral service will begin at 12 pm. Burial will follow in Church Hill Cemetery.
