John Preston Jones, 74 of Chestertown, MD passed away surrounded by his family on February 14, 2024.

John was born on February 13, 1950 in Chestertown, son of the late Arthur F. and Helen Pardee Jones.  He was a 1968 graduate of Chestertown High School.  In 1969 he enlisted in the United States Army serving in Vietnam.  During his service he was awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart for gallantry in action while serving as a machine gunner with his unit, Co, C, 1st Bn, 5th Inf, 25th Inf Division on April 10, 1970.  He had also received a second Purple Heart and the Bronze Star Medal during his tour, He was honorably discharged in 1971.

He had worked for Don Kelley in the body shop but was known for his many years of carpentry in the area.  John was a member of American Legion Post 36.  He enjoyed visiting the slots in Dover, annual trips to Las Vegas and his corvette.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Joyce Stare and brothers, Tom Jones and William Jones.

John is survived by his daughter, Sherry Jones (John) of Crumpton, MD; his girlfriend Sharon Crew; sister Mae Myers; brother Frank Jones (Angie) all of Chestertown, MD; several step grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and numerous good friends.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, February 27 from 10 to 11:30 am in the Galena Funeral Home of Stepen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St. Galena, MD where funeral service will begin at 11:30 am.  A chapel service will follow at 2 pm at the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery, 6827 East New Market Ellwood Rd., Hurlock, MD 21643, where military honors will be presented.
