John Edward "Eddie" Lavin, Jr., 80, passed away on April 24, 2023 at Christiana Care-Union Hospital.
Eddie was born on July 6, 1942 in Darby, PA, son of the late John E. Lavin, Sr. and Rebecca T. Grugan Lavin and was raised in Glenolden, PA. After marrying Bebe, they moved to Media and then settled in Chester County for over 25 years while raising their three daughters. For 40 years, Eddie worked as a Steamfitter for Local 420, retiring in 2000 to Cecil County, MD.
As a young man, Eddie played semi-pro football. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, being outside - whether working in the yard or tinkering around in the garage. He was always building something including his homes in West Bradford and West View Shores. He was active in local politics while living in Pennsylvania and also the West View Shore Civic Association, where he helped the community in a big way. You could always find Eddie on the tractor cleaning up the beach.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Maureen Capper.
Eddie is survived by his wife of 57 years, Bebe (Aubry) Lavin, daughters, Bebe Ellingsworth (Mark) of Honey Brook, PA, Michelle Lavin of Atglen, PA and Traci Zary (Brian) of Gap, PA; sisters BeckyAnn Herman of West Wildwood, NJ and Kathleen Lyon of Kirkwood, PA; a brother James Lavin of Glenolden, PA; grandchildren, Nicole Rulon, Valerie Ellingsworth, Chaz Ellingsworth, Danny Leusky, Kaylee Hook, Colin Toto, Christopher Zary and Tristan Zary as well as 8 great grandchildren.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, May 6 from 9 am to 10:30 am at Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St. Galena, MD. 11 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Dennis Catholic Church, Galena, MD followed by burial at St. Paul's Cemetery, Earleville, MD
