John Kendall Cowley, "Ken", 87 of Heron Point, Chestertown, MD passed away on October 7, 2024.

Ken was born on July 16, 1937 in Philadelphia, PA, son of the late Edgar Kendall Cowley and Anne Lambert Cowley.  In 1951 his family moved to Springfield where he graduated from Springfield High School in 1955.  He furthered his education at Spring Garden College, obtaining his degree in Mechanical Design.  Ken had worked for the DuPont Company for 35 years as an industrial designer, retiring in 1991.

Ken was a life member of the Springfield Fire Company, where he served as secretary, director, president, assistant chief, chief and fire marshal.  He was a life member of the Delaware County Fireman's Association and the Keystone State Fire Chief's Association.  He was also active with the Pennsylvania Air National Guard for 9 years.

In 1995 he moved to Bay View Estate in Earleville, MD where he enjoyed boating on the Chesapeake Bay.  He became a member of the Cecilton Lions Club, serving as secretary for over 20 years.  In 2015 he moved to Heron Point in Chestertown, MD.

Along with his parents he was preceded by his wife of 61 years Nancy Spahr Cowley.

Ken is survived by sons Jeffrey Cowley and Douglas Cowley (Heather); a brother Ronald L. Cowley; sisters Lynne M. Herbst and Elizabeth Cowley and 2 grandchildren Victoria Cowley and Daniel Cowley.

A private burial will be held at Shrewsbury Cemetery, Kennedyville, MD.

Family invites Ken's friends to a Celebration of Life at Heron Point on Friday, October 18th between 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM.  The Serenity
Garden, which Ken co-led the redesign and construction of, will be open for friends to mingle and share their favorite memories and stories.
