John B. Bakker, 93 of Chestertown, MD passed away on March 24, 2024 at Golden Rule Assisted Living, Rock Hall, MD.
Mr. Bakker was born on October 19, 1930, son of the late Bernhard and Emma Marie Bartz Bakker. He was born and raised on a farm in Possum Hollow, Worton, MD. In 1954 he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving 1 year 6 months overseas, he was honorably discharge in 1956. John was a carpenter and home builder in the area for over 50 years, building his last home in Galena in 2016.
He loved building homes and took great pride in planting geraniums around his home, he also enjoyed fishing.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Virginia 'Ginny' Merchant Bakker in 2017 and a sister Wyerdina Lloyd.
Mr. Bakker is survived by his step-daughter, Cinda L. Walls (John) of Salisbury, MD, Paul Bakker (Dorris), Albert Bakker, and Charlie Bakker all of Chestertown; grandchildren, Bobbie Hahn, Gary Walls and John Walls (Pat) and great grandchildren, Rowan Renshaw, Caleb Hahn and John T Walls, Jr.
A viewing will be held on April 3, 2024 from 11 am to 12 pm in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St. Galena, MD where funeral service will begin at 12 pm. Burial will follow in Crumpton Cemetery with military honors.
