Joan Merdian Miller

Born October 17, 1934 in Philadelphia, PA and moved to Delaware County in 1935.  She was the daughter of Gerard J. and Henrietta Heinemann Merdian.

A graduate of Notre Dame Catholic High School in Moylan.  Class of 1952.  She worked as a secretary at Butcher & Sherrard in Philadelphia PA before marring her husband, William 'Neal" Miller in 1955.

She was a stay-at-home Mom until 1977 when she was employed by Columbia Research Inc., Woodlyn, PA.  When her husband retired they moved to Worton, MD in 1986 and built their retirement home.

She was employed with the Kent County Public Schools in Chestertown, MD from 1992 until 2010 when she retired after 18 years of service.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, her son William 'Pete" Miller, sisters Margaret Kappel, Michele Merdian and Paula Cooper and brother Gerard 'Butch' Merdian.

She is survived by her children, JoNan Jewell (Tom) of Chestertown, MD, Stevan Miller (Lisa) of Mainesburg, PA, Patricia Miller of Worton, MD and Izzy of Worton, MD, brother, Michael Merdian (Barbara) of Ulysses, PA.  Also survived by her "adopted" children Barbara Bowie (Bob) and Steven Cross.  Four grandchildren, Kristin, Lindsey, John and Nikolas, great grandchildren Skyelynn, Reese, Malik, Sahara, James Jeremy, John Clark, Jaylin, Haylee Riley and John IV and many nieces, nephews, cousins and of course the granddogs.

At her request no services will be held.
