Jay A. Baxter, 63 of Worton, MD passed away on June 12, 2023at Shore Medical Center at Chestertown.
Jay was born on October 7, 1959, son of the late Albert F. and Hazel Cook Baxter. He was a lifetime resident of Worton where he was raised on the family farm. Jay was a 1977 graduate of Kent County High School. He had worked as a fiberglass boat finisher for Green Point Marina for many years. Jay trained and raced harness horses and loved rabbit hunting, playing and watching baseball.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Thomas Baxter, brother-in-law Alan Jewell and nephew Officer Michael Nickerson.
Jay is survived by his children, Jacob Baxter (Lauren) of Church Hill, Jessica Smith (Frank) of Chestertown and Haleigh Debnam (Drew) of Kennedyville; sisters, Sue Nickerson (Joe) and Ann Jewell all of Lynch, brother David Baxter (Diane) of Worton; sister-in-law Carol Baxter of Hartley, DE; granddaughters, Frankie Smith and Brylynn Baxter; grandson, Briggs Baxter; nieces, nephews and many supporting friends.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, June 17 from 12 to 2 pm in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St. Galena, MD where funeral service will begin at 2 pm. Burial in Union Cemetery, Worton, MD.
