James Hill Voorhees died peacefully on July 23, 2025, at home in Galena, Maryland.

Jim was born on June 6, 1950, in Trenton, New Jersey, to Edgar S. Voorhees and Blanche H. Voorhees. He is survived by his partner, Mary Tazewell; his sons, Jacob L. Voorhees, and Samuel B. Voorhees (Ann) and the mother of his sons, Peggy L. McHugh. Jim is also survived by his brothers, Robert E. Voorhees (Carol) and Dean R. Voorhees (Jo). He is preceded in death by his parents and beloved sister-in-law, Cheryl Voorhees.

He will be deeply missed by his nephews and niece: J. Rob Voorhees (Beth); Rebecca (Keith) Johnson; Eric Voorhees (Stacey); and Jeffrey Voorhees (Katie). He was admired and loved by his great nieces and great nephews: Madison Johnson, Kaitlyn Johnson, Matthew Johnson, Kylie Voorhees, Mason Voorhees, Christian Voorhees, Evalynn Voorhees, and Ethan Voorhees.

Jim graduated from North Caroline High School, Denton, Maryland in 1968. He attended Potomac State College, Keyer, West Virginia graduating in 1970. After graduation, Jim worked on horse farms. He settled in Kennedyville, working as a restoration carpenter. Jim enjoyed working with his hands as a leather smith, artist, and being a Scout Master for many years.

He attended the Kennedyville United Methodist Church. Jim served on the board of the Kent Farm Museum for many years; and often advocated for the museum in the community.

He spent many hours researching family history and genealogy of the Voorhees family's migration from the Netherlands in the 1600's to North America, settling in New Jersey and later to Maryland. Jim will be long remembered for his storytelling talents and sharing his knowledge of history and carpentry of old buildings. He was well known for his depth of knowledge of American History, not to mention his delicious homemade pies.

There will be a celebration of life for Jim Voorhees on Saturday August 23, 2025, at 2 p.m. at the Kennedyville United Methodist Church at 12008 Augustine Herman Highway, Kennedyville, MD, 21645.
