James Walter Thompson, 81 of Chestertown, MD passed away on December 1, 2022 at Accent Care-Christiana Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Jim was born on February 6, 1941 in Baltimore, MD, son of the late John W. and Katharine A. Shriley Thompson. At the age of 2 his family moved to Chestertown where he later graduated from Chestertown High School Class of 1959. He served with the Maryland National Guard where he was activated for 6 months during that time. Upon his honorable discharge he began his career in the early 60's at Fair Hope Farm, becoming their manager and continued working and living on the farm until his passing.

Mr. Thompson was a member of Wesley Chapel Church, Sgt. Preston Ashley American Legion Post 228, Kent Farm Museum, Kent Ruritan and Eastern Shore Jousting Association.

Jim is survived by his wife of 38 years, Helen Lorene Finn Thompson, daughters, Valerie Williams of Chestertown, Vickie Quinn (Danny) of Chestertown, Tracey Rodney (Scott) of Galena and  son, Matt Steele (Annie) of Church Hill; sisters, Joan Plummer of Chestertown and Mary Spray of Millington; a brother William Thompson of Chestertown; 7 grandchildren, Whitney, Daniel, Matthew, Ashley, Kevin, Katie and Jennifer; 7 great grandchildren, Oaklyn, Lainey, Nola, Evelyn, Henry, Connor and Anna and his faithful dog, Nellie.

A visitation will be held Thursday, December 8 from 11 to 12 noon in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St. Galena, MD where a memorial service will begin at noon.
