Obituary

James W. "Cobb" Collier, 81 of Hartly, DE passed away on May 5, 2024 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Cobb was born on September 10, 1942 at McGinnes Corner, MD, son of the late Rondolph V. Collier and Margaret V. Walls Collier.  He was a graduate of Sudlersville High School.  James joined the Maryland National Guard obtaining the rank of Staff Sergeant and was honorably discharged in 1970. Cobb sold firewood and worked as a carpenter before he began his 27 year career as a Prison Guard, with the Department of Corrections for the  State of Delaware, retiring in 2017.

He was a huge Orioles fan, enjoyed NASCAR, visiting Dover Downs, hunting: deer and waterfowl, fishing-both bay and shoreline, loved history with trips to battlefields and museums with his family and loved trivia and playing trivia with family and friends.  He was a member of the Corrections Officers of Delaware.

Mr. Collier is survived by his wife of 45 years, Janette Arlene Collier; their children, Kimberly Rolfe (John) of Millington, MD, Melissa Green (Doug) of Smyrna, DE, Greg Collier (Vanessa) of Smyrna, DE and Josh Collier (Chris) of Canberra, Australia; 3 grandchildren, Johnny Rolfe, Robbie Rolfe and Harley Green and 4 great-grandchildren, Ava, Audrey, Jaxon and James; and Sheldon the Dog - "His Little Boy"

A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 15 from 11-11:30 am at Blackbird Community Center, 120 Blackbird Forest Rd., Townsend, DE 19734, where a memorial service will begin at 11:30 am.  A reception will be held following the service.
