J. Douglas Uhl, 81 of Galena, MD passed away peacefully at home on March 8, 2026.

Mr. Uhl was born on December 21, 1944 in Delaware County, PA son of the late Harlan Eber and Elizabeth Bovard Shaw Uhl.  He was raised in Darby and was a 1964 graduate of Darby High School.  He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1965, serving for 4 years.  He began his career with Linde Air Products before joining Gulf Oil Refinery, serving as a shift supervisor.  He retired in 2001 from Sun Oil Company.

Doug and Sue built their retirement home in Galena in 1989 and moved full-time in 1999.

He was a life member of Galena VFC, and served in numerous administrative positions including president, vice president and as Breakfast chair for 15 years.

Doug was a motorcycle enthusiast enjoying his Harley.  He also enjoyed boating and gardening.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings, Elizabeth Lucas, Robert Uhl and Wayne Uhl.

Doug is survived by his wife of 42 years Susan Fox Uhl; 3 children Jennifer Kallaher (Stephen) of Memphis, TN, Jason Miksit of Millington, MD and Wendy Wickel (Bryan) of Alden, PA; 9 grandchildren, Brenna, Katherine, Cara, Ethan, Hannah, Haley, Joy, Lauren and Matthew and 5 great grandchildren, Lena, Jeremy, Luke, Sam and Veda and niece Kristen Fox.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 19 at 2 pm in Galena Cemetery, Galena, MD with Fireman and Military Honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered to Galena Vol. Fire Company, PO Box 189, Galena, MD 21635.
