Obituary

Dan Loller passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of September 12, 2026.

Born in Easton, MD and raised in Worton by his grandmother Grace Newsome. He attended the small Worton Elementary School and learned mischief making with his lifelong friends Jack Baxter, Eugene Lusby, James “Dinky” Coleman, Joan Wallace and Lillie Mae White.

Dan graduated from Chestertown High in 1951 with the first graduating class in the twelve-year system. He played baseball and soccer all four years.

After graduating he went to work at Aberdeen Proving Ground until drafted into the U.S. Army serving 1953 and 1954 in Korea becoming a sergeant. After returning he resumed working at Aberdeen. Dan was offered an opportunity to work at Kingstown Tractor as the parts manager under the ownership of Gene Kinzle. Later he began his long career with Maryland Department of Motor Vehicle Administration as an administrative investigator. In 1971 he was promoted to the Manager of the newly built MVA in Chesapeake City, MD. He retired in 1996 and opened Dans Tag and Title Service assisting many county residents with their MVA needs.

Dan married Joan Crowding in 1956 and they made their home in Worton where they stayed the remainder of their lives. Joan passed away in 2014 and Dan remained in the home he loved. Dan is survived by his devoted niece Donell Smith (Smitty) and nephew William M. Crowding II (Amy), nieces Debora Emmons, Elizabeth Bramble and step nephew Francis D`onofrio. A half sister, Peggy Parks also survives.

Dan served on the Kent County Planning Commission, the Department of Parks and Recreation, the Democratic State Central Committee and on the Board of Trustees of Worton United Methodist Church.

He played fast pitch softball and baseball as well as driving his go-cart on the track in Worton. Dan always had a garden he loved, and he and Joan canned and froze their vegetables every year. In his retirement he loved to read and to continue his gardening as long as he was able. Dan also played cards with the Tuesday night group for many years and the New York Yankees were his lifelong obsession.

The wonderful neighbors on Porters Grove Road and beyond were always remembered and appreciated. He and his family thanks you all for what you did to help him.

Dan loved to say, “I’ll go anywhere as long as I am in Worton when the sun goes down”.

A visitation will be held on Monday, September 21 from 11 to 12 pm at the Worton United Methodist church, Worton, MD where funeral service will begin at 12 pm. Burial will be held privately in Union Cemetery, Worton, MD.

In lieu of flowers donation may be offered to the Animal Care Shelter for Kent County, PO Box 352. Chestertown, MD 21620.
