Helen Victoria Hilyard Goodman was born in Chestertown, MD to John and Lillian Hilyard on July 23, 1925. Helen passed away at the age of 97 on April 18, 2023.

Helen is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Walter Simmons Goodman and her sister Dorothy Hilyard Slagle.

Helen (Sis) graduated from Chestertown High School, married her late husband Walter (Simmy), worked at Silco's Store for a short time and at the Chestertown Elementary School Cafeteria for 20 some years. She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Helen (Sis) loved people, loved to travel; loved playing cards and games with family and friends. She learned to cook at a very young age with her grandmother and carried that love throughout her entire life. Family gatherings were her thing, of which a lot of those gatherings were on the water with Walter (Simmy), Jay her son, family and friends on their boat the Jaybird.

Helen loved all the activities at the Chester River Manor, always ready and willing to play. She enjoyed sitting and watching people as she loved everyone and always had a smile.

Her son John Walter Goodman (Jay) and wife Debbie, four grandchildren; Tabetha Carbaugh (Devin), Jeff Goodman (Tammy), Tanya Ryan (Matt), Justin Goodman (Jennifer); nine great grandchildren, Gunner Voss (Shannon), Ashley Voss (Paul), Mackenzie Brice (Jared), Hailey Goodman, Teagan Edwards, Anthony Goodman, Kyleigh Ryan, Paige Ryan, Cameron Carbaugh; and two great greatgrandchildren, Aria Watterson and Gideon Brice carry on her Legacy.

A graveside service will be held on May 6 at 11 am at Chester Cemetery, Chestertown, MD. Followed by a 'Celebration of Life" at the Chestertown Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
