Gary Clark Kromer, 84, of Still Pond, MD passed away on June 21, 2026 at Chestertown Nursing and Rehab.

Gary was born in Berea, Ohio on July 18th 1941. At an early age he was adopted by Paul and Martha Kromer who also adopted his sister, Marcella Atwood. In 1953 the family moved from Ohio to St. Petersburg, FL. In 1959 he graduated from North East High School and then joined the U.S. Marine Corps. After his honorable discharge he attended college and graduated from the University of South Florida with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics. He was a life long learner and continued to take formal classes that interested him throughout his life. He was accomplished in his professional field and in his hobbies which ranged from collecting ancient Roman coins to photography. Gary’s photos won awards and some were published in local newspapers and magazines.

Gary moved to Still Pond with his wife, Wende Kromer in 1993. He enjoyed the quiet life and giving dogs that were considered un-adoptable a second chance. He enjoyed walking the streets of downtown Chestertown during markets and festivals. Gary was a nature enthusiast spending time birdwatching and taking photos in the parks near his home. He loved theater, dining out and entertaining his family and friends. He remained independent and active in his final years and was a regular at the local YMCA.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents Paul and Martha Kromer, his loving wife Wende Kromer, many brothers and sisters, his daughter Dawn Rutledge and his grandson Jonathan Batura.

He is survived by his daughter Barbara Sweet, his grandchildren Alyssa (Tony) Santos, Dana (Caleb) Richardson, Nathan Batura, Colton Sweet and several great grandchildren.
