Eugenie “Bette” Felton, 94 of Grasonville, MD passed away at home on October 14, 2026.
Bette was born on February 10, 1932, in London, England, where she met and married her husband Fred in 1952. They traveled to the U.S. in 1953 making their home in Arlington, VA. In 1968 she and her husband purchased property in Grasonville, MD where they built their families second home that later became their permanent residence.
Bette retired from the Arlington County Police Department; she started her career as a crossing guard and a short time later became the first female animal warden in the U.S. She was the top pick for this position after competing against an all-male class at the police academy, something she was very proud of. After retirement she began working as the floral department manager for Safeway, which only heightened her passion of floral design and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her husband Fred Felton in 2001 and her daughter Nanci Lentz in 1992.
She is survived by her children, David Felton of Centreville, MD, Steve Felton of Queen Anne, MD and Sandi Davis (Wally) of Centreville, MD; 8 grandchildren Dana Harper, Kristal Cleaver, Jason Lentz, Charles Lentz, Dale Lukacs, Melissa Evans, Jeremy Felton and Cole Felton and 11 great-grandchildren.
A private burial will be held in Stevensville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered in her name to Compass Regional Hospice, 160 Coursevall Dr., Centreville, MD 21617.
