Ethel Marie Cannon Griffin Squares, 86 of Chestertown, MD passed away on January 6, 2025 at Compass Regional Hospice, Centreville, MD.

Mrs. Squares was born on July 5, 1938, daughter of the late Clarence and Mildred McMullen Cannon.  She was raised on dairy farms in Millington and Church Hill where she graduated from Centreville High School in 1956.  She married Charles F. Griffin and had their daughter. Becoming a widow at an early age, she married her second husband, and they had a son.  Mrs. Squares began working as a waitress and later a seamstress for a clothing factory until becoming a housekeeper at Washington College, retiring after 25 years of service.

She was a member of Price Community Club and enjoyed dancing at the Millington V.F.W.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Willis, Vernon and Ann Cannon.

Mrs. Squares is survived by her daughter Alice Collins (Lawrence) of Church Hill and son Norman Jay Squares (Dana) of Chestertown; a sister Faye Lowman of Chestertown; 4 grandchildren, Andy Collins (Lauren), Holly Collins, Lindsay Lusby and Brett Lusby (Stephanie) and 3 great grandchildren, Ryan McCracklin, Colton Collins and Quinn Collins.

A viewing will be held on Monday, January 13 from 6 to 8 pm in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St. Galena, MD where funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 14 at 12 pm.  Burial will follow in Church Hill Cemetery.
