Ella Deloris Staton, 87 of Richmond, VA formerly of Elkton, MD passed away on May 31, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Ella was born on September 19, 1937, in Wilmington, DE, daughter of the late Issac Granvel Roberts and Sarah Catherine Wilson. She was raised in Middletown, DE. Ella began her career at Campbell Soup and later RMR until she found her job in housekeeping with Union Hospital, retiring after 40 years of service.
She was a babysitter for the community and helped at a friend's daycare, loved cooking, people, and working with children and family gatherings. Ella loved cruises. She was a member of Union Bethel AME Church in Cecilton where she taught Sunday School and helped as an usher. She was also a member of Wright's AME Church in Elkton where she served on the Kitchen Committee and as a missionary.
The family of Ella would like to thank Serenity Hospice of Richmond, VA for their loving care and a special thanks to Ella's daughter in law Pam for her traveling, visits and care during this time.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband James R. Staton, Sr., son James R. Staton, Jr., stepfather Elbert Davis, brothers Johnny H. Roberts and Joseph G. Roberts.
Ella was the matriarch of 5 generations and is survived by her children, Antoine Staton, Sr. (Pam Stevenson), Teresa Staton (Colin Demby) and Eric Q. Staton (Kathy Rivera); 28 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, a host of great-greatgrandchildren, 23 God children, sisters-in-law Diane Coates-Roberts, Helen Marshall, and Hester Wise, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A viewing will be held on Friday, June 13, from 9 -11am in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St. Galena, MD where funeral service will begin at 11am. Burial will follow in Union Bethel Cemetery, Cecilton.
