Elizabeth 'Betty' Carroll, 82 of Galena, MD passed away surrounded by her loving family on November 23, 2023 at University of Maryland Shore Medical Center in Easton.
Betty was born on Flag Day, June 14, 1941, daughter of the late Philip Ernest Weber and Elizabeth Knorr Weber. She was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA where she was a 1959 graduate of Roxborough High School. As a young adult, Betty traveled with her best friends on the weekends to their cottage at Port Herman, and later met Sam in Chestertown at a dance. In 1969 they married and moved to Galena. Betty worked as an office administrator for Kent County Planning & Zoning for 28 years, retiring in 2007. She continued to work for her son at the Fish Whistle as his office manager.
Betty served on the Galena Town Council for 26 years and was serving her second term as Judge of the Orphans Court for Kent County. She was also a former member of the Kent County Board of Elections. A member of the Olivet United Methodist Church for 50 years where she was active, teaching Sunday School, was a Superintendent and Lay Speaker. She was also a member of the Kent County Woman's Republican Club. She was a member of the C. Henry Price American Legion Post 246 Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed crocheting lap blankets to donate, quilting and sewing, and she loved spending time with her grandchildren teaching them how to cook and sew. She enjoyed trips to Lancaster, hosting family dinners, and was known for her kindness to others and her loving personality. "Ms. Betty" was affectionately known by the kids who grew up in Galena.
Along with her parents, she was preceded by her lifelong friend Barbara.
Betty is survived by her husband of 54 years, Samuel E. Carroll; her children, Jeffrey D. Carroll and Maureen E. Ranville (Sean); her grandchildren, Emma and Alex Ranville; her lifelong friends, Janet and Gerry and many other special family and friends that she held dear in her heart.
A visitation will be held on December 9, 2023 from 11 to 1 pm at Olivet United Methodist Church, 115 S. Main St., Galena, MD, where a memorial service will begin at 1 pm.
