Dorothy Butler was born on August 4, 1941, in Accomack County, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Lat Williams and Lucille Smith Williams. She was surrounded by her loved ones when the Lord came and ushered her home on March 8, 2026.

Dorothy attended Accomack High School in the Virginia School System, but could only complete 8th grade because she had to work to help her mother support her younger siblings.

Dorothy was employed at Campbell Soup for several years. Then she began employment at Kent & Queen Anne's Hospital for 23 years. Afterward, she ventured into entrepreneurship and started her own private home-cleaning service, which she ran for over 20 years and served several loyal clients. Also, during her career, she worked at Fashion Bug and Tolchester Marina.

Dorothy had several favorite hobbies and activities. Dorothy was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church. One of which was her love of cooking down-home southern food. She had a passion for one day opening her own restaurant. Also, she loved spending time with her family, friends, and her grandchildren. All who knew her knew of the special love and bond she had with her grandson, Marlon, as they played Mario Go Kart on Nintendo. She also loved going to Dover Downs, playing the slot machines with her husband, Sammy, and son, Shawn, and listening to her beloved husband, Sammy, when he deejayed on weekends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her 3-year-old son, Remus Samuel Butler, Jr, siblings, Eugene Williams and sister-in-law, Mae Williams, Naomi Williams, Anna Mae Williams, Linwood Williams, Elwood Williams, Joseph Wise, Albert "Sleepy" Williams and sister-in-law, Lillian Williams, a brother-in-law, Edward E. Butler, Sr and sister-in-law, Bernice Butler, Anthony Butler and Leonard Butler. Also, she was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Remus J. Butler, and mother-in-law, Essie Butler.

She leaves to cherish fond memories her husband and best friend of 63 years, Remus "Sammy" Butler, Sr. She is survived by her son, Shawn R. Butler, and daughter, Latonia Butler-Clark and son-in-law, Mario Clark. She was blessed with five grandchildren: Marlon S. Hynson, Jasmine Mitchell, Samantha E. Robinson, Maurice Anthony, and Vincent Goldsberry. She was also blessed with six great-grandchildren, Skylar R. Hynson, Avyana E. Robinson, Bella A. Anthony, Rah' Yelle Banks, Aubree Goldsberry, and Vincent Goldsberry, III. She is also survived by a brother, Sherwood Williams, a brother-in-law, Franklin C. Butler, Sr., and a sister-in-law, Wynee Butler. In addition to her children and grandchildren, she is loved by a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends, including Lori A. Butler-Perry, Karen "Cookie" Dodd, Serenity Kelly, and Jill Drischler.

A viewing will be held on Saturday March 14, 2026 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Ashbury United Methodist Church, 8760 Georgetown Rd, Chestertown, MD, where a funeral service will begin at 12:00 PM. Burial will follow in Asbury United Methodist Cemetery.
