Deloris Wessell Dempsey, 92, went home to be with the Lord on April 7, 2024. Born Deloris Rebecca Wessell, on December 17, 1931, she was the second child of eight born to William and Elva Wessell.
On September 16, 1950, she married her beloved husband, William James Dempsey Jr. She is known by her family for her skill in the kitchen and the ability to make a meal out of anything her husband brought in from hunting. Both she and William loved animals and would open their home to any animal seeking a meal and warm place to sleep. She worked as a CNA at Corsica Hills in Centreville, MD for several years. She worked in the kitchen as a Baker for many years at Washington College in Chestertown, MD, until she retired. For a time she worked alongside her oldest granddaughter Becky, she passed this skill onto many of her other grandchildren as well. She spent her retirement spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and lived to watch them reach their accomplishments.
Her family was so special to her, and she loved them dearly. She leaves behind her children: Susan (David) Leonard, William "Bill" (Sharon) Dempsey III, and Joesphine "Rose" (Tom) Jackson; her grandchildren Becky (Chris) Joyner, Chrissy (Gill) Slagle, Jamie Dempsey, Jennifer Dempsey, George Usilton, Julia (Benton Greenwood) Jackson, and Andrew Jackson; great-grandchildren Elizabeth "Liz", Megan, David, Emily, Rachel, and Ryan; and her great great-grandson Gary. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, William James Dempsey Jr, her 7 siblings: Helen, Bill, Patsy, Bob, Nancy, Joseph and John, her beloved poodle Patty Sue and pet turkey Petey.
A Graveside service will be held on Friday, April 12 at 11 am at Still Pond Cemetery, Still Pond, MD.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered to Holden's Chapel c/o Steve Jackson, 3256 Hazlettville Rd., Dover, DE 19904.
