Catherine Ann States, 98 of Chestertown, MD passed away on July 17, 2026 with her devoted sister by her side.

Mrs. States was born on October 30, 1927 in Easton, MD, daughter of the late Charles Clifton and Louise Lane Holden. She was a lifelong resident of Kent and Queen Anne’s Counties. Catherine married George Henry States on December 8, 1945 and together they raised 3 children. For 25 years she worked for Park Cleaners in Chestertown. She was a member of Double Creek United Methodist Church.

Along with her parents and husband, George H. States she was preceded in death by her children, Doris Ann Reynolds, Joan Higgs and James States, her sister Dorothy Hanifee and a grandson Larry Crew.

Mrs. States is survived by her devoted sister, Margaret Elliott of Chestertown; a grandson J.C. Higgs; great-grandson Nicholas Crew and several nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, July 23 from 10 – 11 am in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St. Galena, MD where funeral service will begin at 11am. Burial will follow in Crumpton Cemetery.
