Carolyn Edwards Coleman, of Massey, MD passed away at home on November 14, 2024 at the age of 101.
Mrs. Coleman was born on July 23, 1923, near Chesterville, the oldest of 8 children of the late John N. 'Jack' and Mary Eva O'Neal Edwards. At the age of 17 she met Davidson Coleman and in 1940, they married and moved to Massey where they owned a farm and raised their family.
In addition to devoting her life as a homemaker, Mrs. Coleman worked as a Farm Surveyor for the Department of Agriculture and part-time for the U.S. Postal Service. She also volunteered for many years for the Red Cross at Kent & Queen Anne's Hospital.
She was a lifetime member of St. Clements Episcopal Church in Massey, where she taught Sunday School. Mrs. Coleman was an active member of the Kent County Homemakers where she served as treasurer, she was also a 4-H Leader She enjoyed playing cards, sewing, knitting, baking and loved to travel with family and friends.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Davidson Smith Coleman; a daughter Nancy Alexander; siblings, Elizabeth Mazcko, Eva Mae Wiest, Virginia Hollett, Dorothy Chance, James T. Edwards and Joseph Edwards.
Mrs. Coleman is survived by her sons, Davidson S. Coleman (Ellen) and Michael J. Coleman; grandchildren Kenny Coleman (Ladease), Theresa Fauteux, Tracey Williams (Bryan), Denise Hanifee (Mike) and Wendy Orovitz (Scott) and Kristen Coleman; 15 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank all her caregivers, especially Sandy and her dear friend Gwen.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, November 23 from 11 to 12 at the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St. Galena, MD where funeral service will begin at 12 noon. Burial will follow in Massey Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered to St. Clements Church, c/o Debra Dragone, 32010 Shorewood Rd., Galena, MD 21635.
