Calvin "Cappy" Patrick, 75, formerly of Chestertown, Maryland passed away on January 1, 2024, at home in Denton, Maryland surrounded by his family.
Born in Chestertown, MD on June 13, 1948, he was the son of the late Wilbur T. Sr and Edith Leddon Patrick. Cappy graduated from Chestertown High School in 1966. He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1967 and served his country in the Vietnam War. He became an electric lineman in 1977 with Centreville Electric, now known as Delmarva Power. He retired in the late 1990's.
Cappy is a life member of the Chestertown Fire Department and the American Legion Post 246 in Betterton, MD. He is a member of the VFW Post 652 in Millington, MD and the VFW Post 5118 in Easton, MD. He enjoyed visiting and taking day trips with his friends from the Veteran's Administration to include representing the veterans in many parades around Cecil and Kent County. He received the Quilt of Honor from the Veteran's Administration in December 2023.
Cappy was a huge supporter and advocate for Jousting (Maryland's State Sport) on a local and national level. He was known as the "Dad of the Knights" and was inducted into the National Hall of Fame in 2020. He was a member of the Eastern Shore Jousting Association, Maryland Jousting Tournament Association, National Jousting Association, Natural Chimney Jousting Club and the Virginia State Jousting Association.
Cappy is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Catherine Faye Salter Patrick, and his children Michael (Karen) of Elkton, MD, Renee (J.C.) of Denton, MD, Michelle (Bunky) of Ridgely, MD, and Brandon (Ashley) of Concord, NH. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends who he treated like family.
He was preceded in death by his parents as well as his brother Wilbur "Tom" Patrick, Jr.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 10 from 10 am -12 pm at the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech in Galena, MD, where funeral service will begin at 12 pm. Burial will follow at the Chester Cemetery in Chestertown, MD.
Donations may be offered to the National Jousting Association, c/o Galena Funeral Home.
