Betty Holden Needles, 99, of Chestertown, MD passed away on June 6, 2024 at Chestertown Nursing and Rehab, Chestertown.

Mrs. Needles was born on September 2, 1924 and raised in Sudlersville, MD, daughter of the late Harry and Josephine Huggs Cronshaw Holden.  Betty was a 1941 graduate of Sudlersville High School.  She attended beautician school and was a self-employed hairdresser.  For many years she drove a school bus for Bill Joiner working for Kent County Public Schools and helped with the Kent Co. Board of Elections until she was 70.

Betty was a member of First United Methodist Church and a former member of Frank Jarman American Legion Post.  She enjoyed knitting, sewing and crocheting.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Horace V. Needles, Jr. in 1991 and sisters Annabelle Coleman and Dorothy George.

Mrs. Needles is survived by her daughters and son in laws, Kay & Clifford Higgs, Lee & Tom Loller and Kim & Donald Smith; grandchildren, Craig & Tracey Higgs, Kevin Higgs, Brad & Mellissa Loller, Brook & Eric Fuchs and Holden & Megan Smith; ten great grandchildren and 2 great greatgrandchildren.

A viewing will be held on Friday, June 14 from 11 am to 12 pm in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St. Galena, MD, where funeral service will begin at 12 pm.   Burial will follow in Chester Cemetery, Chestertown, MD.
